weekend wet weather

So it's Saturday night and I am having a girls night at home with my mum and sister. We had plans to go out but since its raining and I already have a sore throat so I didn't want to risk getting even more sick. Last time I went out clubbing and what not in the rain I ended up so sick for a month; it was the worst. Our plans will now take place next weekend. I don't really have a problem with the rain or wet weather, I just hate getting sick. I think I may need to build my immune system up.

My sister and I went grocery shopping today and let me tell you it was not all that fun. We go into a massive argument which included her walking into this girl and then storming off from me. In the end she got over it and came back (I don't think she would actually ever walk home).

This week was also my first week back at uni for my final semester. I cannot wait to graduate in 15 weeks. I am so excited. All I need to do is pass my 3 subjects and then I am onto full time employment. I am currently looking for graduate jobs to apply for and so far I have found 7 that interest be. Hopefully I can get one of those jobs. If not I am sure there is something else out there for me. I really don't know what I want to do so I am applying for anything that relates to my degrees (I do a double degree in business/communication). As long as I get up everyday and enjoy work I should be happy.

Well I dont know what else I can say. I will probably do a bra part two post tomorrow on the different types of bras. Not only is this informative for my you but it helps me with my product knowledge for work. So until next time....

rest of the oscars and other things

Sorry for the lateness of the Oscars part two but I didn't have time to blog yesterday and since my sister fell asleep early and I can't watch Criminal Minds without her, I have time to blog. So the first part of this post will be about my favorite looks from the Oscars after parties. I haven't really heard all that much gossip from the after parties because the news world has been light a buzz with the epic crazyness that is Charlie Sheen but I will post more on him later.  Here are my picks for the best post Oscar looks

1. Charlize Theron
Charlize+Theron+2011+Vanity+Fair+Oscar+Party+GHCgk-Zzzb-l
This is a Versace gown and I think that Charlize looks stunning. If she had done the red carpet then this look would have been one of my picks for best dressed. My favorite part of this dress is the balck beading and ruching on the side. I also like the one shouldered look. The simple hair and makeup are a good choice because it shows what a truly elegant beauty Charlize is. The hair parted to one side goes perfectly with the one shouldered dress.

2. Jessica Biel
Jessica+Biel+2011+Vanity+Fair+Oscar+Party+1Wyvq479AhYl
The first thing I noticed when I saw these photos of Jessica Biel was how flawless her skin in. To me it looked like she was wearing no foundation at all. I like that she kept her makeup fresh and simple because the dress really does all the talking. The hair could have been a little messier for me. Another amazing thing about Jessica is her body, she looks fit, toned and healthy. I only hope that my efforts in the gym can result in looking this good. This dress highlights her great shape.

3. Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth+Paltrow+2011+Vanity+Fair+Oscar+Party+arEHFfey4OHl
Gwyneth makes my list again is the sparkly one sleeved number. It seems like the trend of the night was sparkles and simple colors. Although you cant see it in this picture there is a slit up the right side. The one thing I love about this look is that the only accessories I can see is her gold clutch and wedding ring. Minimalistic is who I like it.

4. Amanda Seyfried

Amanda+Seyfried+2011+Vanity+Fair+Oscar+Party+6IKeuNcp7tCl
This is a different look for Amanda Seyfriend,  I don't think I have ever seen her look sexier. I like how she kept it covered on top and short on the bottom. The ruffling around the bodice and the peek a boo black lace are my favorite parts of this look. Her tousled hair is perfect with this dress. Oh and it had pockets to. Plus she also has minimal accessories.

5. Jessica Lowndes
Jessica+Lowndes+19th+Annual+Elton+John+AIDS+quvNayhZPd4l
Jessica is one my my favorite young Hollywood starlets. She has great style and her makeup is always spot on. I adore the cut of this dress and the beading on the bodice. I hope I can find something similar online because I would love to have this in my wardrobe. Once again we have covered up in the bust area and great legs being shown off. I like that she went with an updo because I think having her hair down would have taken away from the beading on the top of the dress.

I just realised that all my picks involve gold, white and black. They are three colors that I like to wear personally so I guess that is why these 5 looks stood out the most to me. Jessica Lowndes dress is something I would wear out to dinner or clubbing with my friends. I must find out who the designer is.

There has been a a lot happening in Hollywood over the past two days; Charlie Sheen has come out with his side of the story and I am beginning to believe that there is something seriously wrong with him. It might be the drugs finally catching up with him but there is something just not right with the situation and I feel like the news outlets and public are just exploiting it now. I am not going to deny that I find his actions entertaining because I do, some of the stuff that he is coming out with is funny. If CBS were smart they would put Two and A Half Men back into production and get in on the air asap because rating would be through the roof. Or Charlie could just get his own reality show because I am pretty sure ratings for that would sky rocket also. I cannot wait to see how the rest of this story unfolds but I really do hope that Charlie gets the help that he needs for his own sake and his children's.

Oh and Christina Aguilera got arrested for public intoxication and her boyfriend got arrested for DUI. I dont understand why celebrities just dont catch taxis or get a driver service if they plan on going out drinking. Even I catch a taxi if I have been out drinking with friends. You not only potentially ruin your own life but also risk the chances of hurting someone else.

Well that is my rant for today. Until my next post. Take care and be safe.

oscars 2011 part 1

So it's that time of year again...........the Oscars. I haven't seen the whole show because I am currently waiting for my first class of the semester to start. It's my final first class because it's my last semester; I graduate in 15 weeks. But that is a blog for another time. Oh by the way I apologize to my very few readers for my lack of blogging because I have been busy and lazy. I warned you I would just not blog. So what was I talking about originally? Oh right the Oscars.

Congratulations goes out to the King's Speech. I wanted Inception to win best picture but I will take the King's Speech over the Social Network. Don't get me wrong I loved The Social Network but it wasn't that great; The Fighter was better in my opinion but no movie made me think more than Inception. I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks, in fact I still analyze it and wonder if it was real or a dream. Anyways this blogging will be about the red carpet fashion best dressed (I will save the after party fashion for another post). There were really no standouts for me this year. Everyone really played it safe and that being said there were not really any disasters out there either. But E! please do all your viewers a favor and do not let Ryan Seacrest interview on the red carpet anymore; he's just not very good. Okay enough ranting and onto my picks for best dressed.

1. Gwyenth Paltrow in custom Calvin Klein
Gwyneth+Paltrow+83rd+Annual+Academy+Awards+w4I8m9fxDEOl
My best dressed in Gwyneth Paltrow. She looked amazing in this dress which looked like a sequined waterfall. Not to sound cliche bit she really shined. I like the slit in the bust and the Louis Vuitton brooch on her hip which matched the earrings. Her straight sleek hair style was perfect with the dress and her golden smoky eye with a hint of black liner is great. Her body looks fantastic in the dress as well. Oh and her makeup was done by a Chanel makeup artist.

2. Cate Blanchett in Givenchy
Cate+Blanchett+83rd+Annual+Academy+Awards+HPAUdIf3WNxl
As soon as I saw Cate in this dress my jaw dropped. The beading and the pleats wowed me. Givenchy always designs the most amazing dresses and this is one of them. Cate made this dress look elegant; she wore the dress, the dress didn't wear her which happens a lot. I adore the back of the dress aswell  and how the green/yellow beads continue along the back. Her hair was nice and simple and her makeup flawless.

3. Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein
Jennifer+Lawrence+83rd+Annual+Academy+Awards+D8SSLO_v6p5l
Damn girl is the first thing that pops into my head when I see Jennifer in this dress. Nice and simple but she looks drop dead gorgeous. I adore the shade and the cut. It's sexy but not over the top. For a 20 year old girl who's nominated for best actress I think she knocked it out of the park. I also think the smoky eye and wavy hair are great. I also like the gold clutch. Another thing that I like is that she kept the accessories simple.
4. Michelle Williams in Chanel
Michelle+Williams+83rd+Annual+Academy+Awards+wBxqzgkmRbzl
Michelle was another best actress nominee tonight and she looks stunning in this Chanel number. I am not usually a fan of the pixie cut but she makes it work because she has the most beautiful delicate features. Her makeup is spot on tonight and although you might not be able to see it in the picture her bottom lower lash line is lined with blue liner. Her pale pink lip is a nice contrast to her dress. Now the dress is divine but it's Chanel no you cannot really expect anything less. The thing I love most about Michelle Williams is that she brought along long time friend Busy Phillips as her date.

5. Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott
Amy+Adams+83rd+Annual+Academy+Awards+Arrivals+jiFLYI--SHll
Amy is always one of my best dressed and she was also a nominee as well tonight (wow the nominees are really knocking it out of the park). I love blue and I love sparkles. The slip up the back gives it a little bit of sexiness without being to revealing. This reminds me and a dress Amy's friend Emily Blunt wore to the Oscar's a few years earlier. I would have preferred this without the green necklace since the neckline of the gown is such a high cut. No necklace would have been better. The Veronica Lake waves look magnificent on her and when her long layers were swept behind her it looked like she had a sleek bob. Her makeup is always perfect and here she doesn't disappoint.

So those are my picks for best dressed. I don't really have any for worst dressed but if I think of any I will be sure to add them to the after party post. Okay I am going to leave this post here for now because class starts in 20 mins and I need to find where it is and then walk there. So until my next post................

what lies beneath: the basics of underwear

I haven't really had the chance to blog much this week because I have been busy with work. What do I do for work you ask? Well I work in the intimate apparel section at a department store, my official job title is intimate apparel stylist (yay I'm a 'stylist').  The company I work for is Elle Macpherson Intimates, Pleasure State and Bendon. I love lingerie so when I saw this job opportunity I knew that I had to apply and luckily I got the job. This is only a casual job until I graduate from university in a few months and find a casual job but I am thoroughly enjoying it so far.

What I have learned from my position so far is how to correctly fit and wear a bra. A large number of women come in and either have no idea what bra size they are or are wearing the incorrect size. This edition of my blog is going to be a lesson in bra's. So let's start with the signs of an incorrectly fitting bra
  • Breasts are spilling out of the cup, giving you that double boob look
  • The underwire is digging into you and is really painful
  • Shoulder straps are digging in or you are constantly fiddling with them
  • Band is not level and riding up your back
  • The bra is just overall uncomfortable and giving you all kinds of pains

It is best to get fitted for a bra probably once every year because our body does change either from weight gain or loss, exercise, pregnancy, surgery, that time of the month and I think you get my point. Here are the things to look for when trying on a new bra:
  • The band should be snug but comfortable and must sit parallel to the waist line. Which basically means it should sit in a horizontal line from front to back.
  • The underwire and front centre should sit flat against the chest. The should fully enclose the breast and should not be digging in at all.
  • The cups should fully enclose the breast giving you a smooth look with no bulging or spilling over at the top, underneath or at the sides. If there is bulging you will need to go up a cup size. If you don't fill the cup go down a cup size.
  • The side seam of the bra/cup should be at the underarm, away from the fleshy part of the breast. If the bra gives you side spillage then go up a cup size.
  • The straps should sit firmly over your shoulders and they should not dig in. If they leave horrible, painful red marks then it is to small.
  • Try and sit down in the bra(there is usually a seat in the change rooms) to make sure that the bra is comfortable because we do not stand up in our bra's 24/7.
  • Always readjust your bust into the cups because when we put a bra on our boobs dont magically fall into place. we need to position them correctly.

So there you have it ladies (and gents) how to find the correct bra. I am not going to get into the different types of bras and briefs in this post. I will save that for another post.

I hope this was helpful for some of you and if there is anyone reading this who has any questions feel free to ask away and I'll try my best to answer them.

Until next time

bafta awards 2011

The 2011 BAFTA Awards were held yesterday in London and the big winner of the night was the film The King's Speech (which is on my to see list). For some reason I find the BAFTA's more appealing than the Grammy's (which were also on yesterday and they are usually both on at the same time every year). I also find the BAFTA's more appealing than most other award shows; I think it must be the British humor which is funnier than American humor (oh and British accents are very sexy). Since the red carpet arrivals were on at 3am Australian time I DVRed them; that way I can skip over the interviews I don't want to watch. I must say though the the British E! interviewers are a million times better than the American E! interviewers. They asked questions about the films, fashion and of course personal lives (it is E! after all) but it actually came across as very professional and not awkward at all. I wish they would hire them for more red carpet arrival shows.

Now onto the main portion of this BAFTA post, my favorite looks of the night.

1. Gemma Arterton in YSL
Gemma+Arterton+Orange+British+Academy+Film+35_uUVovd2Jl
The blue bow really makes this black dress stand out. Blue and black are two of my favorite colors and Gemma is working it in this dress. Her body looks amazing and healthy which is nice to see because it shows that women can look great even if they aren't super stick thin. Her makeup is also spot on, the only thing I would change is the messy hair. I would have either gone for a messy updo or a more sleeker style.

2. Amy Adams in Elie Saab
Amy+Adams+BAFTA+Awards+Red+Carpet+yyb3QU4eFRml
Amy looks incredible for only having a baby a few months ago. I hope that whenever I have children I can look this amazing after. The peachy orange color is one of my favorites this season and against Amy's pale complexion it really stands out. I adore the shape of this dress as well; from the v-neck cut, the sinched waist and the slight train. The one thing that stands out to me is how the sparkle is woven throughout the dress. Her hair and makeup look divine as well.

3. Emma Stone in Lanvin
Emma+Stone+Orange+British+Academy+Film+Awards+8u0Ik5XH0Yol
Emma is one of my favorite young actresses because I love her sense of humor. She is incredibly funny both on and off the screen. I adore one shouldered dresses and the shade orange. The thing I like most about this dress is how well the two orange tones look together and how they actually work with the tan leather belt. I also like how Emma has accessorized, just a simple clutch to offset the belt and the one cuff bangle/bracelet. Although I miss her gorgeous red hair, I am starting to like her as a blonde and this simple wavy style goes perfect with the simple elegance of the gown.

4. Eva Green in Tom Ford
Eva+Green+Orange+British+Academy+Film+Awards+jWdNHY4B691l
Eva is one of my favorites on any red carpet because she has the kooky sense of style that can go either way and also because she is just drop dead gorgeous. Once again she had gone with a black number, red lips and black kohl eyes (to be that is her signature look and I love it). I like the sheer sleeves and bodice although I think it could have been a little tighter around the bust and down into the waist. Although you can't see the back in this photo, it was my favorite part of the dress.

5. Talulah Riley
Orange+British+Academy+Film+Awards+Inside+nomEGvAs0Mil
Now I don't really know anything about Talulah Riley nor do I know who the designer of the gown is. This is one of my favorite looks because of the navy color mixed with the silver and the fact that it is one shouldered. I like the small bit of silver sparkle on the top of the bodice and I like the fullness of the skirt. It was nice to see something a little bigger then the rest of the form fitting gowns. Although it could do without the puff sleeve, this dress is still a winner.

6. Colin Firth and Livia Giuggioli
Orange+British+Academy+Film+Awards+Inside+aKNZ45EtL3Nl
I had to throw this gorgeous looking couple in here because it is so refreshing to see a nonfamous spouse look just as great as their significant other. I also read a brief story earlier on how these two met and it seemed like something out of a romance novel to me which made me like them even more. I love how they are holding hands in this picture. Congratualtions to Colin on all his success for The King's Speech. By the way Livia's gown is by Nina Skarra.

So that was my first best dressed post. I think it went very well. I am not all that great at describing fashion, usually I either like it or I don't. I am looking forward to the Oscar's though because alot of my favorite actors and actresses are nominated or are presenting. James and Anne hosting should be very interesting and I will be watching to see how it all turns out.

Until next time

the beginning

To whoever is reading this hello and welcome to the page where I will share my thoughts about anything and everything. I really hope that I will be able to blog as much as possible. Sometimes I will probably forget, sometimes I wont have time and most of the time I generally will start to write and come back to finish later

I should probably begin by explaining what this blog will most likely be about. This blog will be a place for me to express my thoughts on what I am feeling and thinking. There will probably be a multitude of topics featured from fashion, makeup, skincare, books, travel, food, fitness, tv and movies and one of my guilty pleasures......gossip.

I sincerely hope that you will enjoy this blog as much as I will enjoy writing it.
