The 2011 BAFTA Awards were held yesterday in London and the big winner of the night was the film The King's Speech (which is on my to see list). For some reason I find the BAFTA's more appealing than the Grammy's (which were also on yesterday and they are usually both on at the same time every year). I also find the BAFTA's more appealing than most other award shows; I think it must be the British humor which is funnier than American humor (oh and British accents are very sexy). Since the red carpet arrivals were on at 3am Australian time I DVRed them; that way I can skip over the interviews I don't want to watch. I must say though the the British E! interviewers are a million times better than the American E! interviewers. They asked questions about the films, fashion and of course personal lives (it is E! after all) but it actually came across as very professional and not awkward at all. I wish they would hire them for more red carpet arrival shows.
Now onto the main portion of this BAFTA post, my favorite looks of the night.
1. Gemma Arterton in YSL

The blue bow really makes this black dress stand out. Blue and black are two of my favorite colors and Gemma is working it in this dress. Her body looks amazing and healthy which is nice to see because it shows that women can look great even if they aren't super stick thin. Her makeup is also spot on, the only thing I would change is the messy hair. I would have either gone for a messy updo or a more sleeker style.
2. Amy Adams in Elie Saab

Amy looks incredible for only having a baby a few months ago. I hope that whenever I have children I can look this amazing after. The peachy orange color is one of my favorites this season and against Amy's pale complexion it really stands out. I adore the shape of this dress as well; from the v-neck cut, the sinched waist and the slight train. The one thing that stands out to me is how the sparkle is woven throughout the dress. Her hair and makeup look divine as well.
3. Emma Stone in Lanvin

Emma is one of my favorite young actresses because I love her sense of humor. She is incredibly funny both on and off the screen. I adore one shouldered dresses and the shade orange. The thing I like most about this dress is how well the two orange tones look together and how they actually work with the tan leather belt. I also like how Emma has accessorized, just a simple clutch to offset the belt and the one cuff bangle/bracelet. Although I miss her gorgeous red hair, I am starting to like her as a blonde and this simple wavy style goes perfect with the simple elegance of the gown.
4. Eva Green in Tom Ford

Eva is one of my favorites on any red carpet because she has the kooky sense of style that can go either way and also because she is just drop dead gorgeous. Once again she had gone with a black number, red lips and black kohl eyes (to be that is her signature look and I love it). I like the sheer sleeves and bodice although I think it could have been a little tighter around the bust and down into the waist. Although you can't see the back in this photo, it was my favorite part of the dress.
5. Talulah Riley

Now I don't really know anything about Talulah Riley nor do I know who the designer of the gown is. This is one of my favorite looks because of the navy color mixed with the silver and the fact that it is one shouldered. I like the small bit of silver sparkle on the top of the bodice and I like the fullness of the skirt. It was nice to see something a little bigger then the rest of the form fitting gowns. Although it could do without the puff sleeve, this dress is still a winner.
6. Colin Firth and Livia Giuggioli

I had to throw this gorgeous looking couple in here because it is so refreshing to see a nonfamous spouse look just as great as their significant other. I also read a brief story earlier on how these two met and it seemed like something out of a romance novel to me which made me like them even more. I love how they are holding hands in this picture. Congratualtions to Colin on all his success for The King's Speech. By the way Livia's gown is by Nina Skarra.
So that was my first best dressed post. I think it went very well. I am not all that great at describing fashion, usually I either like it or I don't. I am looking forward to the Oscar's though because alot of my favorite actors and actresses are nominated or are presenting. James and Anne hosting should be very interesting and I will be watching to see how it all turns out.
Until next time
